Group Programs at Mosaic  

 

 

Mosaic Counselling and Family Services offers a wide range of group programs for men, women and children.

 

Current group times are listed in our Group Program schedule on the right frame of this page. Registration is required for all groups, including groups with no fee. For more information on any group, please contact us at 519-743-6333.

 

Unless otherwise indicated, group programs are based on a sliding fee scale. No one is denied participation due to inability to pay. Course material charges may apply to some groups.

 

Group Programs for Adults

 

Building Better Self-Esteem and Better Moods
This group helps participants learn methods to cope more effectively with feelings of depression and other negative moods, to identify and change chronically negative thoughts and beliefs, and to develop better self-esteem, better self-care, and a more satisfying life.

 

Finding The Calm in The Storm
Dealing with your anxiety can be a draining process. All of us have worries at some time or another. Some are quite helpful; but many worries are recurring and are inefficient thoughts that leave you feeling anxious or distressed. Finding the Calm in the Storm provides skills and techniques to help you gain control of symptoms of worry, anxiety and panic attacks.

 

Moving On
Designed to make a crisis, such as separation and ending of a love relationship, a creative experience. The goal is not only to help people adjust, but to help them transform and take charge of their lives.

 

Managing the Emotional Roller Coaster
Based on Dialectical Behaviour Skills, this group helps participants learn to control their mind and moods, strengthen relationships, maintain self-respect, deal with painful emotions in non-destructive ways, and to tolerate and accept distress and manage challenging situations. Assessment required.

 

 

United Families
This 8 session group helps immigrant families address the challenges of adapting to a new home. Families may be struggling with pre and post immigration issues including:

  • children's rapid adaptation to the mainstream,
  • maintaining cultural values,
  • isolation and language barriers,
  • struggles to succeed, and
  • trauma.

Moneylife Workshop
This clinic is an introduction to services provided by the Credit Counselling program at Mosaic - including budgeting, mediation with creditors and debt management program. Resource material available.

 

Group Programs for Women

 

Moving Toward Healthy Relationships
This group for women who have experienced emotional or physical abuse focuses on safety, building of self-esteem, ending the cycle of violence and learning how to be healthy in relationships. No fee, however, completion of Understanding Me Group Program and registration is required. All participants are interviewed prior to the start of group to determine whether this group will best meet their needs.

 

Understanding Me
Understanding Me provides education and support for women who have experienced emotional and/or physical assault within their intimate relationships.
Open Group. No Fee, however registration is required.

Weaving Our Voices
In a safe and supportive environment, this group helps women deal with the issue of childhood sexual abuse, and assists participants in reducing feelings of isolation, developing advanced coping skills and increasing self-esteem.
Open Group. No Fee, however registration is required. All participants are interviewed prior to the start of group to determine whether this group will best meet their needs.

 

Sexual Assault Therapy Group
This is a safe and confidential group for women who have survived past sexual abuse and trauma. There is no entry fee; please call to register.

 

Stork's Secrets
Postpartum Adjustment: Recovery and Discovery
(Funded by Community Action Program for Children and in partnership with Our Place, Family Resource & Early Years Centre)
Join us for a peer support group for mothers. Mothers will have a chance to talk about their experiences and challenges and changes in the Post Partum period, discuss coping strategies, learn about the importance of self care, discuss parenting topics, talk about health issues, meet other mothers and learn more about community programs. Free infant and sibling programs available during this group.

Taming our Anger Group for Men
This program is a learning opportunity for men who have difficulty expressing and/or managing angry and aggressive feelings.

Fathering Now
Fathering Now is a program for dads and male caregivers with children aged newborn to 6 years. Over 8 weeks, the group explores issues relevant to today's fathers and learn how to make the most of their children's early years, building bonds to last a lifetime. Dinner is provided. There is no cost to attend. A children's program is available. This program is a joint venture between Mosaic Counselling and Family Services, Our Place and Community Action Program for Children.

Group Programs for Children and Teens

  

Changing Families
This group addresses themes and issues children confront when separation and divorce occur in their families.

 

Adventure Club (Ages 6 - 8)
This group enhances leadership attributes and strengthens social, problem-solving and communication skills. Assessment and attendance at pre-group parents session required.

 

Leader In Me (Ages 9 - 12)
This group enhances leadership attributes and strengthens social, problem-solving and communication skills. Assessment and attendance at pre-group parents session required.

 

Setting Free the Butterflies (Ages 8 - 12)

This group reduces children's anxiety levels so that they are better able to cope at home, school and in the community, and assists parents by providing information, effective tools and strategies.

 
Girl Power (Grades 7 and 8)
Girl Power creates a safe, caring and friendly "girl community" where girls explore topics such as healthy body image, problem-solving and communication skills, positive relationships and peer power.

Muslim Social Services Mothers and Children's Group
Muslim Social Services of Kitchener-Waterloo welcomes refugee moms and children (ages 6 - 10 yrs.) to a program hosted at Mosaic Counselling and Family Services. The children's program will have story time, crafts and games all geared to their new life in Canada. For the mothers, there will be sessions of self care, mental health, anger management and parenting in Canada. Bus tickets are available.
